Between Green Slime and Red Tide, Florida’s Water is a Mess

An environmental, economic and political disaster is unfolding in Florida on several fronts:

— Discharges from a heavily polluted Lake Okeechobee are flowing both east and west across the state spreading a toxic bloom of blue-green algae that is causing enormous wildlife die-offs and helping to feed…

–A massive Red Tide outbreak, that is turning the Gulf Coast of the state into a dead zone and severely disrupting both the torusim and fishing industries.

–Meanwhile, state government is in the crosshairs during this election season because this environmental calamity is no surprise–indeed it was predicted but the state did nothing to prevent it, critics says.

It is a story unfolding across multiple fronts.
